Nice numbers for 2019, probably one of my biggest years in terms of cycling.

Lifetime kilometers were at 787.350km on 31.12.2019.

Like in the last four years the cycling racing season ends with the 24hr World Championships Time Trial in Borrego Springs (California). With my season starting with the VIctory at the Sebring 24h Bike Race (Florida), it was another looong season. My season culminated with my best ever performance (and my crew’s) at Race across America RAAM 2019 with a second place in general standings and a victory with a RAAM record for 50-59 category. I topped that off with a great riding and coming to the Finish of Paris-Brest-Paris Super Brevet in the first group for the first time in my randonneuring career. Even with the ever stronger competition in Borrego WCTT, I wanted to finish off my season with a victory and above all with another 500+ mile finish, it would be my fifth one in that race (to that you can count some eight other, mainly in Europe). My last time of finishing the 24h race bellow 500mile mark was the first WCTT in California, which was held in 2012 in Coachella Valey, not far from Borrego Springs. I came pretty close on that course with 495,4 miles. So, anything less than 500 would be a real letdown for me.

On Sunday August 18th, 2019 I will start my fourth PBP. What is PBP? A legendary cycling event is with 1.200km the longest running cycling event that is still organised periodically, every four years to be exact. 12 years have passed since my first one, but I still remember it like yesterday, A beautiful cycling event in a beautiful country, where people love cycling and treat cyclists accordingly. Everyone of 6.000+cyclists that tackle the legendary event is treated like a hero. The atmosphere at PBP is awesome and indescribable.

To get to know the feeling, you have to try it yourself. Join us in 2023 first at the qualifying brevets in Slovenia and then in Paris in August! I am enclosing a few photographies from PBP 2011 and 2015.

In a few days another great adventure begins, we call it Race Across America = RAAM. This will be Marko’s 10th participation since his first in 2003 and in the first nine, he has had three 3rd places and one 2nd, so the only thing missing is a victory. We are going for it again next week!

As usually Marko has spent the last days in Borrego Springs, preparing for the heat expected during the race, which is supposed to be from 100-112F for the first couple of days. The photos are from Borrego where a large number of RAAM/RAW competitors gather to acclimatise to the heat.

It is not a secret that I love cycling and the Race across America. It is the race that has changed my life. I participated in it nine times as a competitor and two times in another role (once as a crew chief and once as an official). On every one of those races I have learned something new about the race and myself. I want to use that knowledge to improve my best result in the race. My best time is 9 days and 2 hours and I am certain that despite my age I am still able to improve on my best result. My goal is to join an elite group of ultra-cyclists that managed to finish the race in less than 9 days. Can I win? All I can promise is that together with my crew, we will do our best. RAAM victory certainly would be the highlight of my cycling career.

So, we are going to RAAM, my 10th participation in the toughest cycling race in the World! I will do my best to have my best race ever and to show the young lads how it is done.

You can be a part of my RAAM, too. Help me raise the needed budget by sponsoring one of the RAAM Time Stations. Check the details HERE. Thank you!

Odločili smo se, da organiziramo novo ultra-kolesarsko dirko v Sloveniji - SLOULTRA. Prva izvedba dirke bo organizirana 25.-26. maja 2019, s startom in ciljem v ljubljanskem BTC Cityju.

To do the Bike Sebring 12/24/Century Ride/RAAM Qualifier was a last minute decision, in part due to the freezing winter in Slovenia and part that it is sort of my traditional preparation race for #RAAM.
